Synopsis
An aging Chinese immigrant is swept up in an insane adventure, where she alone can save existence by exploring other universes and connecting with the lives she could have led.
The Review
It sounds unmanageable on paper, hot-dog fingers, googly eyes, tax audits, martial-arts multiverse hopping, and for the first act it genuinely feels like it might collapse under its own premise. Then it doesn't, because underneath the chaos is one of the most sincere films about generational estrangement in recent memory. Michelle Yeoh finally gets a role that uses the full range she's had all along, comic, physical, and quietly heartbroken within the same scene. The googly-eyes-on-a-rock bit will either be the funniest or the most emotionally devastating ninety seconds of your year, sometimes both at once.
